Google were busy last week.Tuesday brought the launch of Android in association with T-Mobile, which, by the way, will go on sale in Europe at the same time as US. Soon after their former Product Manager (he is now head of mobile product operations at MySpace) slated the look and design of the phone ? has he never heard the old adage don't judge a book by its cover. Another product, thought not as much of a big deal, called ?in quotes' launches. Read the full story at Techcrunch but you're going to find it difficult to find the product on Google's search because it's way down the rankings at the moment. This goes to show that even Google themselves can't just expect to be at the top of their search engine without putting some work in. On one hand this might seem strange, but on the other hand it is quite comforting to know that Google are too precious about their core product (search) to ruin it by manipulating search to artificially improve the rankings of one of their services. As a search marketer I take comfort in the knowledge that I am on the same footing as Big Bob in London and Little Larry in Chipping Sodsbury and the only two things stopping any one of us improving the search rankings for a client is the knowledge I have and the content the client has.
