If you've purchased a smartphone recently, you likely have either an iPhone or and Android device. Since I have an Android, I've taken the time (and expense) to browse the Android Market for some useful SEO-related Apps to give you information on the fly! Most (if not all) of the apps I will examine are also available for Apple's iPod, so give them a quick search if you're so inclined.

SEO Automatic / SEO Review

SEO Automatic (previously known as "SEO Review") is a neat little app which can give you a very brief on-site analysis for any website.

Currently the App costs a one-off fee of $9 (which is about £6.21) for the "pro" version. The pro version of the app can send generated SEO summaries to your email which is quite handy.

The app will provide you only with a very basic SEO synopsis of a website. Some of the ideas and comments made by the app are also out-dated or irrelevant. If you're an experienced SEO the app may be useful, if not then look elsewhere...

The app currently rates 3/5 stars on the Android Market. It works fine for me, but apparently some people have purchased the app and been unable to check their site's SEO profile since their hosting company regards the app's requests as intrusive. Buyers beware!

WebRank SEO

WebRank SEO is an app which monitors a given website's overall standing online (it's also free). It will tell you a web-page's Google Page Rank, Alexa Rank and the number of found backlinks. The backlink counter doesn't seem to work brilliantly but for a quick page-rank checker on your mobile the app works just fine.

The number of indexed pages feature is quite nice. If it suddenly returns a "0" you'll know that you've been penalized. To give Page Rank some perspective, google.co.uk only has a Page Rank of 8. If your site achieves a Page Rank of 3-4 you are doing very well for yourself!

SEO SERP Tracker

This free App allows you to enter a website and a list of keywords. It will then see where that website ranks (globally) for the given key-phrases. Local-search and region based SEO data is not supported, but for a handheld solution what do you expect? It's a nice little tool, however using it commercially would be a huge mistake!

(above: entry of a website and relevant keywords)

Above you can see the keyphrase and the "[1]" represents the global ranking for the entered website and key-phrase(s). Great, we're number 1! The ranking position monitor seems to be reasonably accurate in correlation with USA-based websites. The accuracy is decreased for UK/European websites.

Summary

Some great little SEO-based apps are becoming available. Unfortunately at the moment they are still all in their teething phases. If you're an experienced SEO, you may get some use from these apps on-the-move. However if you're not familiar with the ins-and-outs of SEO the data served up to you could be very misleading.
