The Internet is 18 today

The internet is 18 today and oh my God isn’t it all grown up. Well OK, maybe not but the fact is that change and technological advancement is growing at a rate like never before – that’s the big reason why I don’t want to sign up to an 18 month contract for the iPhone you never know what is coming around the corner. We have been through a dot com crash and web 2.0, Social Media, user generated content and citizen journalism. We have been through hackers, crackers and military level personal encryption. We have seen Microsoft rise and drop, Adobe rise and drop (and rise again) and Google rise and rise and rise. Web video streaming from your mobile and ordering through the internet, live-blogging and twittering, embedding content and sharing widgets. We’ve grown from portable computing to ‘offline mode’ to cloud computing and from megabytes to gigabytes to terabytes of information stored on servers all around the world.

And has anything really changed?

Well yes, everything has changed – so happy birthday internet, and let’s see what’s going to happen in the next 12 months.
