Yahoo Site Explorer to Close This Year
For around five years many an SEO company and internet marketing specialist has utilised Yahoo Site Explorer; a tool allowing anyone to gain a decent idea of the backlinks pointing towards any specified website.
This is set to change in the recent future however. This year Yahoo will be shutting down their back-link analysis tool for good! Other backlink checking tools are readily available to take the place of Yahoo Site Explorer (such as Open Site Explorer) but no other tools give the user such a large volume of back-link analysis data for free.
One problem percieved by many is that Yahoo was the only search engine to provide a fully-featured backlink-analysis tool. Without the complete index of one of the three main search engines behind it, competing back-link analysis tools may give disproportional or skewed data. This SEO company doesn't feel that this is a major issue; Open Site Explorer has always provided comparable (if not superior) data to Yahoo Site Explorer.
Still, Yahoo Site Explorer will be missed by many!
Google Introduces Mobile Transit Navigation
You may remember that we talked about Google's introduction of transit-tracking previously. About a week ago Google announced the release of Google Maps 5.7 for Android. The tracking of local public transportation networks has been added "From Bangkok to Baltimore".
Google Maps Navigation (in Beta testing) covers "over 12 billion miles" of GPS-tracked directions per year. Navigation is available for over four-hundred cities world-wide. Want travel directions related to public transit within the East Midlands? No problem. Head over here:

Google are really impressing us lately with their desire to truly understand local data and present it to users in a useful and easy to understand manner. Thanks Google!
That's all for this week. Until next time...
